SAPANA
SAPANA.org is a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGOD) which is based on two complementary focus areas, namely the one of Awakening – inciting action awareness – and the one of Empowerment – social and economic empowerment of the individual and/or the community, transforming these focus areas in practical and useful tools for their future.
SAPANA.org through a modular methodology - 12 STEPS – it can adapt its work to various target-audiences. This same methodology works fundamentally the individual so that he realizes the best version of himself, who he is and who he wants to become. The second method where SAPANA.org is focused – the TARGET - supports the premise that, while working an individual (Micro), we consequently work a group (Meso) and finally a community / society (Macro).
In this way, it is our intention to work on three areas that are linked somehow, once they all intend to raise awareness and the social and economic empowerment of the individual:
I. Unemployment:
Through TLT Training – Talentos em Livre Trânsito, it is provided to the individual the ability to be confronted with himself and to identify his/her maximum potential, with a view to reintegration into the labor market and/or the creation of one’s own business. This initiative already has a success rate of 70% and has assured the investment by the 2nd year running, given by a Banking Institution.
II. Prisons:
A community with specific features due to the context in which it is inserted. SAPANA.org aims to, not only provide a TLT training adapted to the prison context, which is known as BREAKING BARS – EMPLOYMENT, and which top goal is to enable the inmate to be prepared for the labor market, but also as to provide him with a higher quality of life, preventing recidivism and ensuring a personalized follow-up during the first phase of his social reintegration.
In the near future, CDI Portugal (company which started in Brazil) in partnership with SAPANA.org, will create a recycling project of hardware and software in prison environment, using inmates’ workmanship, paying them for their work, thus preparing their exit and future entry into the labor market. This project, due to its potential, foresees to be replicated in other EP’s (State Prisons) nationwide.
III. Ethnic Minorities:
The Gypsy and Indian communities, as well as the Cape Verde community of the Rego Neighborhood, will be the focus of SAPANA.org, targeting their empowerment and creation of the necessary conditions for an autonomy and economic sustainability. In SAPANA.org INDIA, the KATKARI Tribe is a clear example, of Indian origin, not recognized by the Indian Government and that for this reason, lives in very precarious conditions. SAPANA.org INDIA, through a small training, allowed a group of 14 Katkari Women, to manufacture paper earrings that will be sold in Portugal, and which profit will fully revert to this tribe.
